SSD Performance in Windows 7

Written by Aslisoft on Sep 10th, 2009 | Filed under: Computer News, Hardware News

HardOCP have an interesting article on how SSD RAID performs in Windows 7. Although the hardware used in the article is expensive and out of bounds for all but the most serious enthusiast, it does hint towards the kind of performance we may see in a few years time.

“When this article was conceived it was to be an informative article for both newcomers and enthusiasts to the world of SSDs. What steps were needed to properly set up your new SSD as well as how to get the very most performance from your drive. As mentioned before, the technology behind SSD has progressed so quickly that much of the information out on the web is on the verge of being obsolete, save for some older SSDs.

For today’s article we are going to show you guys what a lot of you can expect when you jump on the Windows 7 bandwagon and slap together some RAID-0 SSD awesomeness with a sprinkle of the Intel ICH10R Southbridge aka x58 chipset. Just for good measure we are going to toss in some charts when running a dedicated RAID card to see what, if any, boost can be expected from such a setup.”

3D Camera to go on sale

Written by Aslisoft on Sep 10th, 2009 | Filed under: Computer News, Hardware News

3D cameras first went on sale over 100 years ago, but there is now a digital consumer version available for around £570. This Fuji 3D W1 will allow you to take 3D (stereo) photographs in a compact point and shoot camera. You can even view it in real 3D using the lenticular LCD on the back of the camera (or send it off for printing on lenticulated paper).

“The FinePix REAL 3D W1 camera looks like a normal digital camera, but it has two lenses and two sensors, which take an image of the foreground and the background of any picture.

A processor within the camera then blends the two images together to create a “image that jumps out at you”, according to Theo Georghiades, the digital product manager at FujiFilm.

People can see the image in a number of ways. They can either view it on an 2.8 inch screen on the back of the camera, or they can buy a special 8 inch digital photo frame that can display the videos or pictures. This special viewer will cost about £390.”
